Gwinnett County Public Library: Supporting your informational, educational and recreational interests with convenient, creative, customer-friendly access to materials and services.

Purpose: This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of specialized planning, programming, and more complex customer service duties in a makerspace environment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Develop, promote, and deliver engaging Learning Lab sessions on a variety of skills and topics, including but not limited to STEM, digital media, the maker movement, and artistic endeavors. 

● Work with customers and staff to create a supportive environment for informal and formal learning and intergenerational collaboration. 

● Deliver one-on-one and group learning sessions, guiding customers and staff in using the wide variety of tools available in the Learning Labs. 

● Identify, create, and deliver programs, partnerships, and outreach opportunities to promote the Learning Lab and engage the community. 

● Monitor the safety of the lab, ensuring that equipment, furnishings, and systems are in working order and ready for public use. 

● Diligently keep track of learning lab use, reporting statistics as required by system protocols, and alerting your supervisor to new or updated software or equipment that would benefit customers. 

● Consistent effort to develop personal mastery of applicable creative fields through informal learning, work experience and coursework. 

● Maintain up-to-date knowledge of system priorities and initiatives as well as professional news and trends. 

● Maintains up-to-date knowledge of library branch operations and customer service protocols. 

Knowledge of: 

● Basic library operational principles and practices; 

● Customer service principles; 

● Adobe Creative Cloud; 

● STEM equipment, including 3D Printers; 

● Graphic Design; 

● Digital media production tools;

● Sewing and related machinery; 

● Library reference principles and practices; 

Skills In: 

● Prioritizing work; 

● Collaboration and teamwork; 

● Providing internal and external customer service; 

● Operating a computer and applicable software; 

● Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction; 

● Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, adapt flexibly to changing priorities, and meet deadlines in a high-speed environment 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

● Bachelor's degree required. 

● One year of work experience (or equivalent education) in public libraries, the arts, a STEM discipline, and computer technology or museum education. 

● One year of experience in developing project-based or skill-building programs for youth and adults is highly desired. 

This position has a minimum range of $43,888 and a mid-range of $52,503.92.
